Jen Griswold is one of our amazing 'mamas in bikinis' this month, and let me tell you - you're going to love this woman. Not only is she a mom of twin boys, but she's also been working with children and families for 13 years as a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. When we asked her about her motherhood journey, she told us that 'overnight my life went from 0 to 60. I never dreamed we’d get surprise twins'. Twins definitely can shake things up!
We had a fun little q/a with Jen to dive into her experience being a mom, her passion for sustainability, and her words for other mamas. Enjoy!
NOTS - Do you have a cool 'mom tip' that you love using or have learned over time that has helped with motherhood?
JG - I don’t have any tips. Half the time I feel like I’m winging it but one thing that has helped me immensely is keeping the day organized. Schedules aren’t “everything” but routine helps a lot!
NOTS - Do you have any go-to sustainable/clean brands that you love as a mama?
JG - We use a lot of items from Public Goods in our house!
NOTS - What is your favorite thing about motherhood?
JG - My boys keep me going all day. Whether we’re biking, running, swimming, playing Star Wars- they keep me active and there is never a dull moment. NOTS - What is the hardest thing for you about motherhood?
JG - Balance. Balancing my work with being a mom while also trying to remember that somewhere in the 24 hours of the day there should be a little “me” time. NOTS - How do you implement sustainability into your life?
JG - Sustainability isn’t about perfection, it’s about progress and I consistently remind myself of this. I often shop secondhand. We try to keep purchases very minimal and take care of what we have. My kids’ toys are also mostly from the thrift store and flea markets. They love figurines from the 80s! NOTS - What was your pregnancy experience?
JG - I had a high-risk pregnancy which meant I spent a lot of time either with my ob-gyn or with my specialist. It wasn’t the most pleasant time for me. I had a few complications and just an overall hard time carrying them. Of course, it was totally worth it! NOTS - Is there anything you want to share with other moms?
Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world. - Jen Griswold
